The government has released the results of the July SkillSelect rounds as well as the official occupation ceilings for 2017/2018. The system is complicated but here are the essential things to know:
-The maximum number of accountants that can be invited this year is nearly double what it was last year
-This means it will be easier to get in as an accountant and it might even be possible to get an invitation with 65 points
-The ceilings for most engineering occupations have also increased, which means it will also be easier to get in as an engineer
-Based on the current pattern, people other than accountants, engineers and IT experts will likely find it more difficult to get in. In the last two rounds the cut off for any independent invitation was 70 points.
