WHAT DOES THE BUDGET MEAN FOR VISAS?

The budget that was announced last night includes some changes for migrants and businesses sponsoring workers:

VAC INCREASES:

From 1 July 2017, visa application charges are rising by 2% and will be indexed to CPI each year. For example:

-Partner visa VAC is rising from $6865 -> $7000

-457 visa VAC is rising from $1060 -> $1080

-Skilled independent and permanent work sponsored VAC is rising from $3600 -> $3670

WORK SPONSORED VISA CHANGES:

Subclass 457 will be replaced starting March 2018 with a new visa that will cost $1150 for a 2-year visa and $2400 for a 4-year visa.

From March 2018, businesses sponsoring workers on visas will need to pay a yearly levy instead of the current training benchmark. For businesses with a turnover of less than $10 million this will be $1200 per year of sponsoring on the new temporary work visa or a one-time payment of $3000 for sponsoring on a permanent visa.

TEMPORARY PARENT VISA:

The new temporary parent visa will be available from November 2017. This will cost $5,000 for a 3-year visa and $10,000 for a 5-year visa, which can be renewed once for a total of 10 years stay for $20,000.
