Sharing with you some changes in the Australian Migration legislation during the COVID19 pandemic and travel limitations imposed by the Australian government.
As many overseas citizens who are in Australia under a temporary visa will be affected by the international travel restrictions, a new visa options has been made available under the Temporary Activity visa subclass 408.
The 408 visa allows overseas citizen to come to Australia to participate in events that are endorsed by the Australian government.
The new visa is called 408 COVID19 event visa, considering the event the current pandemic.
This visa option is available for people with a temporary visa in Australia and not able to depart due to the pandemic restrictions.
Eligible :
- Temporary visa holder whose visa is expiring in the next 28 days
- Substantive visa expired within the last 28 days
- Temporary visa holder working in critical sector during the pandemic , These sectors are : public health service, aged and disability care, child care work, agricultural work
- Or can not meet the requirement of any other visa while onshore
It is most important for overseas citizen to remain lawfully in Australia during this time.
Temporary visa holders whose visa are expiring soon, may be eligible for a 408 COVID 19 visa or a Visitor visa subclass 600
