The 1st of July brings new outlook on permanent skilled migration.
Each year the number of available visas for that coming financial year is set out. For the program year 2019-2020 the planning level has been set at 160,000 places. The Department of Home Affairs has stated it will prioritise Employer Sponsored, Regional and State and Territory Nominated visa categories.
What does this mean for someone looking for permanent residency?
Essentially your chances of obtaining the PR dream are much better if you are able to secure a job and your employer will be happy to sponsor you.
You may ask what job? Which employers?
The occupation list of employer sponsored visas for Employer sponsored and points tested GSM is the same. Therefore, any occupation on the Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills list is eligible for permanent employer sponsorship in any area in Australia.
Any employer will be eligible to sponsor someone for permanent residency as long as they are legally operating in Australia, give you identical working conditions as an Australian working, and can justify why you are being sponsored.
When the Department of Home Affairs prioritise a particular visa category it means faster processing times and more visa available.
Many businesses are happy to sponsor a worker on a permanent visa as it means that they will have a committed employee.
